Introducing Content Moderation for Event Photo Albums

When you open your album to guests at a wedding, a corporate event, or a family celebration, you're inviting everyone to contribute — and most guests will upload exactly what you'd hope for: candid smiles, group shots, and moments you'd never have caught yourself.

But open albums come with a risk. Not everyone exercises good judgment about what's appropriate to upload to a shared event album. Until now, there was no automated way to catch this before it appeared in your gallery.

Today, that changes.

Automatic Content Moderation Is Now Live

QR Album's content moderation feature automatically scans every photo and video uploaded by your guests. Anything that looks inappropriate is flagged and held in a private review queue — invisible to other guests — until you decide what to do with it.

Clean uploads go straight through. You don't see any friction; your gallery fills up normally. Only the content that raises a flag pauses for your review.

How It Works

The process happens in the background, immediately after a guest uploads:

  1. Upload received — A guest uploads a photo or video to your album
  2. Automatic scan — The file is analysed within seconds
  3. Clean content — Approved immediately and visible in the gallery
  4. Flagged content — Moved to your private "Needs Approval" queue, hidden from all guests

Nothing is deleted automatically. Flagged content stays in the queue until you review it — you're always in control.

What Gets Filtered

Content moderation catches three categories of inappropriate material:

  • Adult and explicit content — Nudity and sexually explicit imagery
  • Suggestive or racy content — Suggestive poses or partially revealing content that doesn't belong in a shared event album
  • Graphic violence — Disturbing or violent imagery

Each category can be toggled individually if you want finer control. Or you can switch everything off with a single master toggle if your event doesn't need moderation at all.

Reviewing Flagged Content

When flagged photos are waiting, a badge appears on the "Needs Approval" tab in your gallery. Open it to see everything that's been held for review.

From there you can:

  • Open a photo full-size in the lightbox to inspect it before deciding
  • Approve a photo — it moves immediately to your published gallery
  • Delete a photo — it's removed permanently
  • Select multiple photos and approve or delete them in bulk

If the scanner caught something that looks fine to you — an image with an unusual composition or colour that triggered a false positive — just approve it with one click. It publishes instantly.

Configuring Your Filters

Find all moderation settings under Settings → Moderation in your album dashboard.

Content moderation toggles:

  • Master on/off switch for the entire feature
  • Individual toggles for adult, suggestive, and violent content

Privacy controls (also in the Moderation tab):

  • Gallery Lock — prevent guests from viewing the gallery at all until you're ready to open it
  • Guest Downloads — choose whether guests can download individual photos

Your Own Uploads Are Always Trusted

Content moderation only applies to guest uploads. Any photo or video you upload yourself as the album host is approved immediately and published straight to the gallery — no queue, no delay.

Available on Pro Plan

Content moderation is a Pro plan feature. If your album is on Free or Plus, the "Needs Approval" tab will show an upgrade prompt.

Upgrade to Pro to enable automatic content moderation, along with unlimited uploads, 365 days of storage, and access to all QR card templates.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does content moderation slow down uploads? The scan runs in the background after the file is stored. Guests see their upload complete immediately — the moderation check happens without any visible delay on their end.

What happens to flagged photos? They're held in your private "Needs Approval" queue. They're not deleted, and they're not visible to any guests. You decide what to do with each one.

Can I turn moderation off? Yes. The master toggle in Settings → Moderation disables scanning entirely. Uploads will be approved immediately, as they were before.

What if a clean photo gets flagged by mistake? Approve it with one click. It publishes to the gallery instantly. False positives are rare, but when they happen, the fix takes a second.

Do videos get scanned too? Yes. Both photos and videos are analysed for inappropriate content.

Content moderation is live today for all Pro albums. If you're already on Pro, head to Settings → Moderation to confirm your filter preferences. If you're not on Pro yet, upgrade here to get started.
